Deity Asteroids In The Natal Chart

An Overview of Asteroids in Astrology

Asteroids are a somewhat new addition to astrology. Ceres, the first asteroid, was discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801.

The "Big 6" of asteroids in astrology are Ceres, Pallas, Juno, Vesta, Eros, and Chiron. These six asteroids have the most available information about their placements in natal charts. Since asteroids are a lesser-known and lesser-explored aspect of astrology, finding interpretations of some of their meanings within a birth chart can be difficult. Many interpretations of asteroid placements draw elements from the mythology of the figure the asteroid is named after.

For example, 100 Hekate, named for the Greek goddess of liminality and the crossroads, is linked to transitions, learning occult knowledge, and revealing light in the darkness. 42 Isis, named for the Egyptian goddess who journeyed to resurrect her husband and restore her son to the throne, is linked to union and pulling together missing pieces to create a whole.

How To Find Asteroids In Your Natal Chart

The easiest method would be going to astro.com, then selecting "extended chart selection," then "additional objects." From this screen you can manually input asteroid numbers to appear in your chart.

Here is a full list of asteroids named after mythological figures.

Deity Asteroids In The Natal Chart

My theory is that by analyzing where certain deities and mythological figures fall in your chart, you can see how they can help you to learn or grow! This could be by simply drawing parallels between their stories and yours, or by directly working with them. In short, looking into where a deity's asteroid falls in your natal chart can allow you to gain insight into what role they may play in your life.

Examples and Explanations of Deity Asteroids In The Natal Chart

In this section I'll provide several examples of asteroids in a natal chart, as well as how they could be interpreted. I'll use some specific examples from my personal chart and more generic examples.

Both 1930 Lucifer and 1862 Apollo are in my 10th House in my chart. The 10th House represents the overarching work you will do in your life, and your biggest achievements. Lucifer and Apollo are my patrons, and both are associated with knowledge and learning (I'm planning to become a teacher). I'm also studying to be a priestess to Apollo, so that's another occupation and big achievement. I personally like to refer to the 10th House as the Patron House. A deity asteroid's placement in your 10th House may indicate that the deity will play a larger and more significant role in your life and practice.

I also have 4707 Chryses in my 1st house. In the Iliad, Chryses was the priest of Apollo who prayed for his intervention and set off the greater conflict of the Iliad. The 1st House represents our sense of self and the image of ourselves that others see, and again I see a representation of the overarching direction that my personal path is taking.

If you have 399 Persephone in your 9th House, your parents, especially your mother, may be controlling or overbearing, leading you to display habits of rebellion. If you have 100 Hekate in your 6th House you may benefit from reaching out to her to study needed occult skills or developing a daily or routine practice. Those with 1184 Gaea in the 7th House may benefit from having a nurturing and level-headed spouse.
