Two of the most beginner-friendly and essential practices in witchcraft are cleansing and charging. Both skills are simple and easy to learn, and provide useful groundwork for your craft as a witch.
What is Cleansing?
Cleansing is removing stagnant, unwanted, or negative energies from an object, area, or person. Cleansing is done to prevent those unwanted energies from disturbing or or bringing harm to your life or intentions. It can also help to keep tools performing at their best.
How To Cleanse
There are several methods to cleansing, including but not limited to:
-smoke cleansing (burning herbs, incense, etc)
-salt, rice, and dirt burial
-running water
-moonlight and sunlight
-sun and moon water
-sound (bells, singing bowls, music, etc.)
-crystals like selenite and carnelian
-heat-proof objects can be cleansed in fire
-intentional breathing
-wind
When To Cleanse
Cleansing can be done after acquiring a second hand object, after using something (crystal, tarot deck, etc.) for a long time, or after whatever you're cleansing (room, object, yourself) has absorbed a fair amount of negative energy.
What Is Charging?
Charging is resetting the energy in an object. Charging serves to set intentions, and to"program"an object with new energy.
How To Charge
There are several ways to charge, including but not limited to:
-music or sound (songs that carry your intention, bells, etc)
-sunlight and moonlight
-sun and moon water
-contact with crystals that align with your intention
-visualization
-intentional breathing
-personal energy
-help from a deity
-planetary influence
When To Charge
Charging can be done before spell work, before working with an object, when setting an intention, or whenever the object needs to be recharged. Charging an object can boost the proficiency of spells and restore the original functioning power to an object.
